The Association of British Insurers (ABI) have reported findings from a recent survey of homeowners and their attitude towards flood risk, a year after the floods of last summer.
Three quarters of those surveyed considered that not enough was being done to prevent flood risk, with many naming improved drainage as a key priority.
Out of those questioned who suffered flood damage last year, 80% considered the risk of flood had, if anything worsened, making the danger of flood a real possibility to a wider area.
It was almost unanimously agreed that the governments plans for three million new homes by 2020 should be reviewed if it means more homes will be at risk.
Tougher planning controls, greater investment in flood defences and a recognised building standard or kite mark to show that homes are built to a flood resilient standard, were considered to be the options for a way forward by over 98%.
