As Safe As Houses, Home Insurance

John Williams - Tuesday 08.04.08, 10:48am

Where is the safest place to live in the UK?

A recent report of the most burgled cities in the UK, shows Nottingham on top of the list ahead of London and Bristol. A house in Nottingham being 63.3% above the national average, with London a fair way behind at 50.8% and Bristol at 50.7%.

In contrast, the leafy suburbs of Surrey or Guildford at least, is the least burgled city, by a country mile, with a figure of 82% below the national average. The second spot going to Dundee at 55.3%.

The research from home insurer Endsleigh suggests that domestic burglary may be on the decline across the country, but there is no room for complacency warns the insurer.

“Some towns and cities represent a greater risk than others,” said Endsleigh spokeswoman Rhiannon Harris.

“It’s crucial that, as well as helping the success of neighbourhood safety schemes where they can, people across the country must remain vigilant when it comes to home security.

“Domestic burglary figures may be dropping but there is no room for complacency when it comes to protecting your home.”
