The strong arm of the insurance group, Insurance Forum, representing the top UK motor insurers, have forced the Government into a U turn on its proposals to revamp prices charged for removing accident damaged and illegally or dangerously parked vehicles.
The group had threatened to take the Government to court over its new charging system, and the Home Office has responded by revising the plans.
Michael Eagles, joint chairman of the Insurance Forum, which represents the 25 motor insurers, said: βItβs a vast improvement, and something the Insurance Forum is going to be much happier with. I think the Home Office has taken up a lot of what we have said in terms of the definitions, and it can be applauded for that.β
The ABI who had also lobbied for changes, hope that the accepted figures will mean that premiums will not be affected but remain cautious, saying: “It remains to be seen how premiums will change in the future. Our concerns have been largely taken on board. Of course, these charges have got to be fair and reflect the amount of work involved in a recovery.β
