Small Business Owners Overlook Insurance

John Williams - Monday 19.05.08, 15:17pm

Small business owners are subjecting their customers staff and business to unnecessary risk says a poll commissioned by Insurantz .com.

Almost 30% of those companies surveyed admitted to not being sure exactly what was covered by their insurance policy, while 12% did not even know if they were insured or not.

New businesses appear to be the main culprits, a staggering 32% said they had no cover at all and a further 14% were unsure if they had insurance cover at all.

Companies were also unaware of their obligation to cover Employers Liability Insurance which is a legal requirement to cover sub contractors and temporary staff. The fine for not having the insurance is £2,500.

A third of business owners considered that insurance matters are complex and time consuming.
