Top Five Travel Insurers With No Age Restrictions

John Williams - Wednesday 04.06.08, 14:05pm

A recent survey by Intune, the financial arm of charity Help The Aged, reveals that insurers are getting more picky over who they will supply with travel insurance.

The company surveyed 495 travel insurance policies and found that 97% impose an age limit on travellers. A quarter of those surveyed did not provide cover for travellers over the age of 65, while 70% would not cover those aged 75 or older.

Companies with no upper age limit on their policies are Natwest, Saga, Intune, Age Concern and Co-operative Insurance.

The survey also revealed the possible reason why age limits are imposed by many insurers, customers over 85 are eight times more likely to make a claim than a 35 year old, and those over 65 are three times more likely to claim.

A case study shows that an 89 year old can purchase a multi trip insurance with Intune for £107, allowing them to take holidays of up to 31 days at a time.
