Recent research from Aviva has revealed a generational divide in motorists attitude to driving while under the influence. The report says that while younger drivers are less likely to drink and drive, 10% of 17-24 year olds admitted to driving while under the influence of drugs.
Despite the younger drivers being less likely to drink-drive, 24% say they have driven while potentially over the limit. In contrast 32% of drivers in the 45 to 64 year old bracket admitted to the same crime.
Other worrying statistics in the younger age group, 25% of 17-24 year olds have admitted travelling in a vehicle knowing the driver to be under the influence of drugs, while 5% of young drivers admitted to sending SMS texts while in charge of a vehicle.
The report calls for greater awareness of the dangers of drug and drink driving.
