Former Eastenders actor turned BBC weatherman Des Coleman has been banned from driving for three months after being found guilty of driving without insurance.
Coleman was stopped by police in November last year and was unable to show his relevant insurance certificate, he claims that he was unaware of his insurance having run out as he had recieved no notification from his insurance company.
The East Midlands Today weatherman had faced a six month ban, which the court reduced to three months after accepting Coleman’s mitigating circumstances of hardship to his family if he were to lose his licence for the longer period.
Coleman who admitted to being ‘ashamed’ at the conviction was fined £800 plus £200 costs. He said after the case;
“I’m absolutely gutted. In a sense I’m glad they stopped me because otherwise I could have been driving without insurance for a long time.”
